Insulation Blog - A Blog For Sound Insulation Products In The UK
Sound insulation.... for some it is a passion, a job, for others it is a project and on this insulation blog we would like to bring the passionate insulation enthusiasts experiences with those looking to take on an insulation project.
Everyones experience with insulation differs, I have worked in insulation for over 20 years, have had the best times and have a stack of memories because of this.
Luckily most of the insulation projects I took on were very successful with the end results. Whether that was insulating and carpeting one-off special vehicles for very famous people or designing the insulation components to be fitted on high volume manufacturing lines all over the world.
I have learnt whilst working on product design that noise is very searching and will find the smallest gap to penetrate through, however most insulation problems can be fixed with a little problem solving.
The most difficult insulation projects I have worked on were within the automotive industry as you have a wide range of noise problems present including road noise, engine whine, rain and environmental noise issues. You are also working in challenging environments for product performance which requires vigorous testing requirements for water ingress, flammability, product durability and VOC emmisions to name a few. This means that you can find the perfect acoustic insulation product, however it will be discounted from fitment due to not meeting temperature stability requirements for example.
On this insulation blog we will discuss the insulation products which have been designed and selected from the UK's finest insulation manufacturers to feature in our online shop.
There are many types of insulation materials on the market, few however have been through vigorous testing for flammability, temperature performance, durability of bond, flexibility and acoustic performance. These are stated, as tested in the insulation products description on our site so you will probably come across terms such as flame retardant to EuroCLASS B-s2-d0 and peel strength, this is to demonstrate the products cabability in different insulation scenarios.
Insulation - Sound Deadening
Sound deadening insulation products are usually dense barrier layers or flexible butyl type products with varying acoustic and material properties. For example, a butyl sound deadening insulation product will usually be flexible below room temperatures where as bitumen type products generally become brittle at lower temperatures making them harder to fit. Our sound deadening insulation product ButylMAT has been specially formulated to bring exceptional sound deadening properties at a reduced thickness for fitment in hard to insulate areas. It has a heat reflective cover material which is both waterproof and UV stable and the overall product is capable of resisting a hot temperature of 90 degrees C and a cold temperature of -40 degrees C.
Correct, this insulation product is specially developed to not tear or to cut your skin when fitted it, this cannot be said of other sound deadening insulation products on the market.
DeciLAM is suitable for vehicle and home sound deadening applications and has been specifically developed to meet EuroCLASS B-s2-d0 flammability and provide a whopping 27dB of sound reduction. It is commonly purchased to insulate between floors and walls and is self adhesive for ease of fitment. With proven insulation properties and flame retardancy results whilst being priced competitively within the insulation marketplace, it is flying off the shelves!
Insulation - Soundproofing
Another variant of insulation products is soundproofing, these are generally lighterweight and tend to trap air in their structure enabling the material to absorb sound effectively. The interesting part of working with soundproofing products is matching the frequency of the noise issue with the absorption co-efficient of the insulation product you are looking to utilise in your acoustic solution. There are some highly effective insulation products which have been developed over the years as refinement has became more necessary in many insulation markets. We are very fortunate to have a few insulation products which are both effective for sound insulation and cost effective.
Self Adhesive hydrophobic 21mm sound proofing insulation material suitable for areas upto 120 degrees. High acoustic performance:
SIFELT - sound insulation material 20mm and 30mm options available, in weights of 400gsm and 600gsm respectively.
Also suitable for insulation applications upto 120 degrees C. Generally the thicker the product the better the acoustic performance with soundproofing insulation products.
All of our products are manufactured in the UK
